How To Celebrate New Year

New Year is considered one of the major international holidays. People of different places (regions) celebrate it in their own way. It is a common practice to say goodbye to the past year with thanks and welcome the beginning of the new year. You can celebrate New Year with your family, a few close friends, or by partying with thousands of strangers. However you choose to celebrate, we here hope it’s a celebration you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

Attend An Official Event

1 – Go to an “open-air” party: This type of “street party” often includes live musicians or DJs, confetti, and fireworks. Programs take place. To attend some of these programs, you have to buy tickets in advance, and some programs you can attend for free.

  • Many places around the world hold New Year’s Eve parties that attract national attention: such as Times Square in New York, USA; Sydney Harbor in Sydney, Australia; Central London in London, England; Eiffel Tower in Paris, France; Brandenburg Gate etc. in Berlin, Germany.
  • Many cities offer open-air celebrations and street parties that you can attend.
  • If open-air parties are not happening in your city, then you can start one. Sites like Meetup are a good option to start.

2 – Go to a dance club: If you want to have a great party when you ring in the New Year, gather your friends and go to a club. Clubs provide you with great DJs and along with this they also offer special drink competitions.

3 – Attend a formal party: Many luxury hotels and restaurants host New Year’s Eve celebrations. In their celebrations they feature programs by orchestras, jazz bands, and professional singers and musicians. You should book tickets in advance to go here.

  • Most formal events like this require you to wear formal attire, or “black tie.”

4 – Go to a casino: In addition to the casinos offering you games like cards and slot machines, their New Year’s Eve celebrations include dinner, shows by professional singers, tribute bands, and performances by comedians.

  • You must be 21 years of age or older (19 or older in the United States and outside states such as Canada and Ontario) to visit a casino.
  • Las Vegas hosts a strip wide party combining all the casinos together.

5 – Attend a midnight church service: Some people attend a midnight service on New Year’s Eve, this is called a watch-night service. This often includes food, singing, and messages from the church leader.

Go To Party

1 – Celebrate the party at home: If you have any acquaintances who are celebrating the New Year party at home. So find out from around them whose party you want to celebrate (like how big the party is, where it is, what activities are to be held there).

  • This entire party is hosted or it is a potluck. Get complete information about this before time, this will help you know whether to take food or drinks or not.

2 – Go out for dinner: Whether you go to a family restaurant with children or have a night party with friends at your favorite restaurant. Going out to eat is a great way to celebrate the New Year in a small way.

  • Some restaurants have special food and drinks on New Year.
  • You should book the restaurant a few days in advance because all the restaurants are busy with New Year Eve parties.

3 – Party with friends: Gather some of your friends and meet up at one of your favorite spots. This could be a bowling alley, restaurant, club, or city park. Decide in advance who will wear what, who will bring what, and what will happen. Because, you are usually planning an impromptu party.

4 – Go on a date: What could be more romantic than a new beginning? Book in with your bestie (ahead of time) and go out for a nice dinner and ring in the New Year together. After this enjoy with colorful fireworks and midnight kiss.

Host A Party Yourself

1 – Invite people over: If you don’t want to go out to celebrate the New Year, invite people over to your home. For this, you can invite fewer people and throw a small party, or you can have a big New Year celebration.

2 – Create your own party favors: The holidays are a great time for everyone to get creative. You can also make your favors according to your New Year party theme. Hats, confetti, and noisemakers are great party favors. You can search the internet or magazines for how to make these party favors.

  • If you want to get really creative, create New Year themed games to amuse your guests.

3 – Make party food: You can make some fun food on the theme of New Year party. Delight your guests by making fancy cheese, crackers, party pastries, hors d’oeuvres, and a variety of side dishes. If you don’t want to put in the effort to make all this, try making a dish that’s easy to serve, or even order some pizza (but be careful and order early).

4 – Serve drinks: Most people drink champagne during the ball drop at midnight on New Year’s Eve, but any drink will do. You can also serve wine, beer, and cocktails to guests.

  • If there are children there, give them apple juice, sparkling cider, or keep non-alcoholic beverages there.
  • If you don’t want to keep the kids up until midnight, show them a few hours before New Year’s Eve from another country where the ball drops earlier than yours.

5 – Host a potluck: If you don’t want to lug around food and drinks for your guests, have them bring their own food and drinks. In return, you are giving them entertainment and space to party.

  • Each person may bring one or two items of food or drink or both. By the time all the guests arrive, you should prepare all the necessary items for the party.

6 – Stay alone at home: If you want to avoid the crowd, relax at home and watch a movie. There are many New Year themed movies, but you should not be limited to them.

  • You can also watch the ball drop on TV, or if you feel like it, join your neighbors outside for midnight.

Respect Tradition

1 – Start a family tradition: Many families will create traditions for the New Year. Because the holidays herald changes, some people discuss their goals and challenges with each other.

  • To celebrate, some families have a formal dinner together outside or at home.
  • Many families celebrate them together to respect their traditions.

2 – Respect personal traditions: There’s never a bad time to start a personal tradition, whether you’re going out to party, staying home, watching the fireworks, or celebrating the New Year in your own unique way.

3 – Celebrate cultural traditions: Depending on where you live, there are different types of traditions. Even if you are not from that place, and if you like that tradition, then you can adopt it if you want.

  • In Greece, parents bake a cake and hide lucky coins in it. They cut and eat the cake at midnight. Whoever has this lucky coin piece, his coming year will be lucky for him.
  • In Belgium, children write New Year’s letters to their parents, and read them aloud.
  • In Estonia, people often eat 12 meals to celebrate the New Year. Leave some food for the spirits who visit home during holidays.
  • In Ireland, women keep mistletoe under their pillows at night for good luck.
  • In Germany, people eat marzipan pigs and gem-filled donuts for good luck.
