History of Halloween Day

According to history, about 2000 or more years ago, the famous religious festival ‘All Saints Day’ was celebrated on 1 November in the entire Northern European countries. But according to some other sources, the history of Halloween was related to the ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. On this day, people who follow Gallic traditions celebrate this festival and it is the last day of the harvest season and the beginning of the cold season.

They strongly believe that on this appointed day the souls of dead people rise and appear on earth and cause trouble to the living souls. To scare away these evil spirits, people dress up like demons. Apart from this, bonfire is lit and bones of dead animals are thrown into it. The modern Irish, Welsh and Scots are said to be descended from the Celtic peoples in the form of their Gaelic languages.

It is also called All Saints Day which is celebrated on 1 November which was created by Christians for the conversion of pagans. All Hallows’ Eve is the evening before All Saints’ Day. Which is now known as Halloween Eve. This festival involved worshiping idols, but some Popes tried to merge it with other Christian religions, and the result was that All Saints’ Day and Halloween Day began to be celebrated on the same day.
