Funny Story

Many years ago, a washerman named Sakharam lived in Damru Nagar village. He was very hardworking. Used to wash clothes of village people and earn money. He had a donkey named Dhenchu, who was very lazy and when he did not feel like going to the river with the load of clothes on his back, he would run away somewhere.

Sakharam was very upset because he had to go to the river to wash clothes. The river was far from his house and he had a lot of trouble in picking up the clothes.

He tried to convince his donkey Dhenchu lovingly and even by beating him, but Dhenchu had sworn that he would not listen to anything and would just eat fodder and sleep. He didn’t feel like working at all.

Dhenchu was in Sakharam’s house since the time of his father. Sakharam loved him like his brother. But he was so fed up with Dhenchu’s laziness that once Sakharam had to go to the river carrying the load of clothes on his head for a whole week. That day Sakharam decided that now he would sell Dhenchu and buy another donkey with that money. Who helps him in his work.

Sakharam told many people of the village that he wanted to sell his donkey Dhenchu, but the people of the village knew how lazy Sakharam’s donkey was. Therefore no one in the village was ready to buy that lazy donkey.

Sakharam also told the people of nearby villages about this but the news of Dhenchu’s laziness had spread everywhere. One day Sakharam and Dhenchu were late in returning home from the river. On the way they met robbers. The robbers caught Sakharam and said to Sakharam, give us whatever you have.

Sakharam said, “Dacoit King, I am a poor washerman, what will you get from me.”

The bandits said, “We have heard about you and your donkey. People in the village and surrounding areas talk about you and your donkey. You must have something that makes everyone talk about you.”

Now Sakharam started thinking, “If I tell these people that my donkey is lazy and people discuss because of this, then they will not believe what I say and will kill me.”

Then Sakharam said, “What have you heard about our discussion?” Then a robber said, “Stupid discussions are held only by big people and big moneylenders who have money and money. Who talks about the poor.”

Hearing this, Sakharam thought of a solution. He then said to the bandits, “Master Bandits, people keep talking like this, I am a poor washerman, what will you get with me, you can search me if you want.”

The bandits searched Sakharam but he really had nothing with him, so what could those bandits get? Then a robber said to the chieftain, “He has hidden the valuable thing with him somewhere, he must not be carrying it with him all the time.”

The leader of the bandits said to Sakharam in a loud voice, “You tell us directly or we will kill you.” Sakharam caught hold of the dacoit chief’s leg and said, “Sardar, don’t hit me, I tell you, I have only one magical donkey for you, but this is not just any donkey, Maharaj.” At exactly 12 o’clock on the night of Amavasya, you should take bath, worship your God, worship this donkey and then ask for whatever you want from it. This ass gives everything.

The leader of the bandits said, “Where did you get this donkey?” Sakharam said, “This donkey was given to me by my father.” The leader of the bandits said, “Okay, from now on this donkey of yours becomes ours.”

Hearing this, Sakharam immediately said, “No, Maharaj, if you snatch this donkey or take it by force, it will be of no use to you. You will have to give all your money in exchange for this donkey, only then this donkey will give you a boon, otherwise you will not get anything.”

The robbers got greedy and said, “Okay, you wait here, we will go and bring all our money.” Saying this, the robbers leave Sakharam and his donkey Dhenchu there and go to collect all their money.

Sakharam becomes very happy that he was ready to sell this Dhenchu even at a low price. But now he will get a lot of money in exchange for Dhenchu. He says to Dhenchu, “Now you will also understand that when these robbers take you and you will not be able to fulfill their wish on the new moon day, they will beat you badly and I will take all the money and go to the city.”

Dhenchu thinks to himself, “How wicked he is, talking about selling me to these wicked bandits and running away with so much money.”

Dhenchu thinks and says in his mind, “Sakharam, I will not leave you even now.” Just then the robbers return with all their looted money. And says to Sakharam, “Here, we have brought all our wealth, now the boon of this donkey will work for us, will it give us whatever we want?”

Sakharam says, “Yes Sardar will definitely give.” Saying this he takes all the money and says in front of the bandits, “Take care of him, I consider him like my brother and want to hug him before leaving.” The robbers also think that this donkey must have given a lot to Sakharam. That is why today Sakharam is feeling so sad to leave it.

Sakharam hugs the donkey and says in his ear, “Now you will have to settle the account of all the sorrows you have caused me.” When Sakharam hugs Dhenchu and says this in his ear. So Dhenchu makes a hole in Sakharam’s money bundle with his teeth and thinks in his mind that you were unhappy with my stay, now with my departure, you will be even more unhappy.

The robbers take Dhenchu with them. And Sakharam happily walks towards his home with his bundle of money. But by the time Sakharam reaches home, little by little all the money from his money bag has fallen on the way.

Seeing this, Sakharam starts crying loudly and says, “My luck was so bad that I got a donkey that made me do the work and when I got money, it was such that I couldn’t even come home.”
